SEAI Grants for you
SEAI Grants for you
The SEAI offers a range of grants to help with the cost of upgrading your home to make it more energy efficient. Some of these are ‘single measure’ grants, under the Better Energy Homes Scheme, which help you with one single aspect of upgrading your home, like getting a heat pump or installing solar panels. Then there is the National Home Retrofit Scheme, which offers a larger grant to cover more extensive work on your home.
Better Energy Homes Scheme
These single measure grants offer a fixed amount of money towards upgrading one aspect of your home. These grants are available year round. Here is a list of the available grants:
Insulation Grant
This grant covers a range of different types of insulation (including attic insulation, cavity wall insulation, internal and external wall insulation) to suit individual property requirements. Up to €8,000 is available depending on which type of insulation you choose. Available for homes built and occupied before 2006.
Heat Pump System Grant
This grant covers a range of heat pump systems, with grants available up to €6,500. To apply for this grant your house must be built and occupied before 2011 and it must be ‘heat pump ready’. You must get an SEAI registered technical advisor to assess your home for heat pump readiness. There is a €200 euro grant available towards the assessment, available if you choose your technical advisor from the SEAI list.
Heating Controls Grant
The SEAI offers a fixed sum of €700 towards the installation of heating controls, available for houses built and occupied before 2006.
Solar Electricity Grant
Up to €2,100 is available for solar panels (reducing to €1,800 in 2025) depending on the system you choose.
Solar Water Heating Grant
€1,200 is available for a solar water heating system. This grant is available for houses built and occupied before 2011 and the upgrade must cater for the size of the home rather than the actual number of occupants.

National Home Retrofit Scheme
This scheme offers larger grants for a complete energy efficiency upgrade, or retrofit, of your home. This is a way to get a complete overhaul of your home’s energy efficiency, including multiple efficiency measures. Once completed your home will meet a minimum of B2 BER. The SEAI grant offers up to 35% of your home retrofit cost, which in previous years of the scheme has resulted in grants up to €35,000.
You cannot apply for this grant as a private individual, only group applications from retrofit companies are considered. So, to apply, you must do so through an SEAI registered retrofit company like Greenwatt. The application process is complicated, but we have the expertise to complete this for you.
