SEAI has put together a new National Home Retrofit Scheme. The scheme aims to stimulate the improvement of Ireland’s housing stock through home energy efficient retrofits.
This will result in lower energy consumption and emissions, moving us closer to the aim of becoming climate neutral by 2050 as outlined in the Climate Action Bill.
This scheme incentivises retrofit contractors to educate homeowners on the benefits of home retrofit and provides financial assistance to homeowners who complete retrofit upgrades on their homes.
The scheme is open to the following:
- Homes that were built and occupied before 2006 and reach a minimum BER of B2 after retrofit.
- Homes that were built and occupied before 2011 and reach a minimum BER of B2 after retrofit work including installation of heat pump, solar panels or solar water heating.
Homeowners interested in carrying out retrofit works on their home and applying for the scheme should contact a retrofit contractor soon to initiate the process. Applications need to be submitted by January in order to be considered. You will need to have your house audited and agree a plan of works in advance of the application.
How does this affect me?
The National Home Retrofit Scheme offers you the opportunity to upgrade your at a substantially reduced rate. Grants of this type are usually around 30% of the total retrofit cost, so you are basically getting a 30% discount on your home retrofit.
Not only that, but you’ll end up with a warmer house, improved BER and lower energy bills - permanently!
